India Authentic # 3 - Indra
Before there was time, there were Dyaus the Sky and Avni the Earth. Dyaus lusted for Avni. Rudra the Storm finally took pity and raised such a tempest that, for a brief moment, lightning touched earth. And so Indra the Thunder Lord is born. Raised by his mother, his only companion is Airavaat, the great white elephant with four tusks. Then Shiva comes to Indra and tells Indra that it is time for him to fulfill his destiny and become king of the gods. But to do that, he must slay the serpent demon Virithra, who now hoards all the waters of the earth. Famine and drought have spread. The earth is dying. Armed with a weapon carved of human bone - freely given - Indra confronts Virithra and fulfills his destiny.
